Whilst on our New Zealand Holidays we saw lots of wildlife everywhere and
also whilst out walking some sections of various tramping trails we enjoyed the
beautiful countryside. Trails such as the Abel Tasman are saturated with both
large and small ferns of all varieties as well as lots of mosses - a real
delight to walk through. Milford Sound is of course well know for it's beauty
and also the amount of wildlife which can be seen if you are lucky - we
certainly saw plenty of seals whilst on our trip plus several penguins both on that Sound and on
Doubtful Sound.
Particularly on South Island we came across loads of wading birds on the mostly
deserted beaches and around Farewell Spit - also quite often idle sleepy seals
although some did seem to be enjoying a bit of surfing too. Penguins were pretty
hard to spot - they are amazingly shy - we did see several on the empty beaches
north of Christchurch but they quickly cleared off into the sea and we were
unable to get any decent photos.
